meet our artisans
Bono collection is sustainably handmade by the women artisans in rural artisan organization in the northern part of Bangladesh. They use jute as the main raw material and 176 women artisans work at this organization. In most cases, the women artisans were housewives before joining with this organization and their work was not recognized, unpaid and limited to household activities. Some women worked in the nearby rice mills for very low wage, Like, Tk. 100 per day for a long hour period (over 10 hours daily.). Unfortunately, there is no such work for the women to do in the area. The artisans now have a feeling of financial independence and self-sufficiency. They are able to contribute to their family and participate in the decision-making process for their family. They can also send their kids to school and provide their basic needs. Most importantly, the artisans are dignified with a bit higher status in their community.
