Seagrass, as its name suggests, it is a grass that grows in the sea or in areas that have saltwater. Not only it is beautiful, lightweight and sturdy, but it also is far more beneficial to the planet. Seagrass grows in large beds, which resemble meadows – another reason why it is called “grass.” Today, there are approximately 60 species of seagrass.

Seagrass is a fast-growing plant and can be grown all year round. Seagrass also helps trapping CO2 underground and absorbs heavy metals from the water before they are harvested. Harvesting seagrass supports local communities from beginning to the end: farming, drying, spinning and dyeing. Seagrass is a great eco-friendly choice and alternative to plastic because it degrades very quickly and is known to be the most stain resistant among all natural fibers.
